Young Tennis Hopefuls Meet British Number One Andy Murray

Kids from across the UK had a day to remember as they met British number one Andy Murray at the finals of David Lloyd Leisure’s ‘Road to Andy Murray’ programme.

The young tennis aces, aged between 3 and ten, joined Andy Murray at David Lloyd Leisure club in Raynes Park today as part of their prize for winning their club competition of the ‘Road to Andy Murray’ initiative.

The ‘Road to Andy Murray’ programme is a competition for young David Lloyd Leisure members aged 3 – 10 years old, with heats held across all 46 of their specialist racquet clubs throughout June and July. The best girl and boy from each club won the chance to meet Andy Murray on court on Sunday 16th September in the London club.

After swapping tips with the budding young tennis players, Andy posed for pictures with the winners and signed autographs.

Andy Murray, who launched the ‘Road to Andy Murray’ programme back in June 2007, said: “I love coming to David Lloyd Leisure and seeing the kids playing tennis and getting really excited about the game. The ‘Road to Andy Murray’ programme is a fantastic way to encourage kids to play their best tennis whilst having fun. This is great for the British game.

“The coaches at David Lloyd Leisure will ensure the kids are trained professionally giving them a really great start. It would be fantastic if we discovered some great players of the future through this competition. Meeting these young players is really fulfilling.“

Scott Lloyd, Managing Director at David Lloyd Leisure says: “The ‘Road to Andy Murray’ finals are very exciting for David Lloyd Leisure members and the children taking part. To meet Andy Murray and watch him on court must be a dream come true for these young players and is a great programme for the future of the game.

“Andy is a great ambassador for tennis and his dedication and commitment to being a champion is fantastic for the young tennis players here at David Lloyd Leisure to witness.“
